FREE

While I’m writing these words, millions of people in Israel, Gaza, and around the world are afraid for their families and lives. Their feeling of safety has vanished overnight. I’m not here to talk about the endless conflict between Israel & Palestine — it is not my place and I won’t pretend to understand everything. 

However, the theme for this month, that I chose at the beginning of the year, was about Freedom. The sense of being Free and I do believe this theme is right on time, unfortunately. 

We’re talking about people who don’t believe in Freedom and anything else that makes life rich and worthy of experiencing and living it fully. We’re talking about people who only see one way of living which is through terror, abuse and violence. 

America isn't perfect either, unfortunately. For the past few years, we have also been fighting for our human rights, and so it comes back to freedom again. It has also happened in other ‘free’ countries. 

Freedom is at stake. It has always been and always will be. 

The truth is we are afraid of Freedom. We are afraid of being free and living our life as we want to. Human beings always had that need of controlling. Controlling the mind, the people, the media.

Through fear, you can control anyone except the ones that are free. The ones that create their own rules, beliefs and values. The ones that are moderate in their approach to life and are not here to force anything on others but instead are open to dialogue. 

Right now, everyone wants to be "right." The famous, « I know better. » that we have seen pervading the Internet, more and more. People don’t listen to each other anymore. They don’t care and simply want to be glorified in their stupidity and ignorance. We constantly attack or get attacked because right now, there is only one way of being a woman, one way of being a man, one way of raising children, one way of talking, travelling, dancing, loving and so on.

This is not freedom. This is the fear of being different, of being unique. 

The more self-centered we become, the more afraid we are. We estrange people. We cancel people. We don’t even make the effort anymore to have a deeper conversation. We condemn a word, an attitude, a behavior right away without even trying to see the entire picture. We no longer consume with heart and interest. We consume to consume. The more, the better. For what? Filling that void? The void that we are so afraid of feeling?

We are in a phase of destroying anything that we thought was forever granted. It’s probably going to take some time, but the good news is, at some point, we will start rebuilding and hopefully will do better than before. 

That’s the only way forward, doing better. 

That's how our family system can keep living its own growth, generation after generation, doing better and better. You want your children to do better than you and that is the proper order. 

Same thing with Freedom. So many of our ancestors fought for Freedom as they knew it was the best gift ever in this life. Let’s not forget about them. Let’s still keep fighting for the right to be Free. The right to live your life as you would like. The right to feel Free at work, in love, with your family, with your friends. 

The right to be Free is intertwined with trust, growth and love. 

 I’m not going to lie, I’ve been terrified of what has been unfolding in front of our eyes. But if there is one thing that I can contribute at this time, it's to keep welcoming everyone as they are. I can give everyone the freedom to be and give them the acceptance they deserve. 

That’s a few of the principles of Family Constellations - Being free without hurting. Being free of following your own heart, and so courage. 

My wish for you all... is that you have a family, if not a group of friends, if not an entourage, if not a community, that gives you permission to be YOU. That’s where True Freedom exists.
