The Mother is our life foundation. It is through her that we come into this life. If we are disconnected from her, we are disconnected from life. Many fundamental problems in our life are related directly to our relationship with our mother. The mother cannot be replaced by anyone in her role. The connection to the mother is what helps us and leads us onwards in life, in order to develop ourself as a person.

One of my friends sent me a clip from the Kardashians TV show on Hulu. Kourtney was talking about generational trauma with her mother and was finding it incredible. She went on to ask her mom why she thought she was so controlling. Well…. here's my 2 cents!* The masculine is absent in their family system. That’s why women had to take over and become controlling. When the feminine is not supported by the masculine, there is an urge to control everything in order to feel safe.

Women who have a mother wound will often end up with men who cannot look after them emotionally. As a child, these women learned that to receive love from their mother, they had to put their own needs last, and not express their truth because otherwise they would face disapproval and criticism. They believe that to love someone means to sacrifice their own needs.

In Britney’s case, her father lost his mother and then he did the same thing to his daughter. Since we don’t know the entire story, I won’t make any bold statements. But, we can look at what played out through a different lens. Was Britney’s father scared of his daughter committing suicide? Did he feel helpless with his mother’s health so he tried to control his daughter’s health?

Women who had emotionally absent fathers that did not really connect to them and/or did not always seem interested in them are more likely to develop hyper independence. Women who have a father wound aren’t usually able to emotionally depend on people because they don’t feel safe enough to trust.

Some of my female clients kept recommending the book "The Surrendered Wife" by Laura Doyle. I finally decided to read it. Well, I agree with the author's perspective about 70%. There was around 30% for me that was a bit too old fashioned for our time. I believe that our men have grown up and are embracing + accepting women reclaiming their lives, financial independence, and having a voice.
